The scientific method is useful far beyond laboratories. It is a disciplined way to replace confident assumptions with evidence.

Turn opinions into hypotheses

My preferred development method is iterative: define the question, build or source a representative prototype, record the variables, test the outcome, document failures as well as successes, then decide whether the idea deserves another cycle. In construction that scientific mindset sits alongside commercial reality. A material can be technically interesting and still fail on labour, programme, certification, supply chain, insurance or cost. The useful answer is the whole-system answer.

Measure what would change the decision

Good measurement is selective. If the answer will not change the next decision, it may not be worth collecting. In a construction trial that might mean moisture, density, cure time, labour hours or interface failures. In an AI workflow it could mean response time, booking rate or exception frequency.

Treat failure as information

A failed prototype is valuable when the variables were controlled and the result is documented. Repeated undocumented failure is simply waste.
